However, you’ll need more than just the ideal location to get the most out of your solar installation; you’ll also need to understand which system will benefit you most and what procedures you’ll have to follow to qualify for bonuses and grants.
How to Break Even in 2-5 Years With Your Solar SystemOne of the things in the front of your mind will undoubtedly be how to break even.
We’re sure you’ll want to know how quickly you’ll recuperate your initial investment through the savings you make on your electricity bills.
Roughly speaking, you can expect to break even between four and ten years, depending on the following:
- The quality of your system will greatly determine the time you’ll need to break even; high quality systems cost more initially, but can also pay for themselves a lot faster, since they come with optimal performance and a longer lifespan.
- If you decide to invest in the best possible system and also include the necessary inspections and paperwork, you’ll have access to incentives and tax breaks.
- The higher your electricity costs, the faster the payback will be, since your savings will, in turn, become more substantial.
- Solar payback periods depend greatly on sunlight access, so a location like Jávea will definitely help you get there faster.
While investing in a high quality system will generate the most benefits in the long run, we understand that everyone has their own budget.
That’s why we devoted the next few sections to an overview of the costs, permits and incentives you can potentially benefit from.
How Much Does a Solar Installation Cost in Jávea? The cost of your solar installation in Jávea will vary, depending on its size or the quality of the equipment used.
For example, for a 5 kW system, you can expect to pay between €5,000 to €12,000, prior to any government incentives.
At MiSolar, for a 7 kW system, we’ve been quoting a cost of around €7,500 to €8,000, subject to different factors.
However, other companies have been known to charge as much as €9,000 to 10,000, or more, especially if you include batteries, back up boxes and so on.
In more detail:
- The general cost per kW can range from €600 to €1,200, depending on the system you choose.
- The converter can set you back between €1,000 and €2,000, depending on the size.
- Depending on its complexity, the solar installation and labour can cost between €1,000 and €3,000.

What About The Battery?
A solar battery can take up a significant part of your budget, so you’ll have to properly analyse your needs and decide whether a physical or a virtual battery will be the best option for you.
If you choose a physical battery, this means you want to be self-sufficient, benefit from grid independence and have a secure backup in the event of any power outages.
This also means that the initial investment can be pretty steep, between €5,000 and €10,000.
However, for high energy users going for maximum independence, the payback period will be shorter.
If you are a lower energy user who will use solar power intermittently and do not desire self-sufficiency, you may prefer a virtual battery.
In this case, there will be no installation costs.
It is important to remember, however, that if you wish to be on the grid, your installation will have to be registered with the General Directorate of Industry and Energy of the Valencian Government and get the Self-Consumption Code (CAU).
These are the Permits, Inspections and Certificates You’ll NeedFinally, for permits and inspections, you can expect to pay a further €500 to €1,000.
If there are any costs that can be cut from your initial investment, then you might think that this could be a good place to do it.
However, obtaining the appropriate documentation is critical for the legality and long-term cost effectiveness of your installation.
Before the Installation: Get Your Minor Works PermitIn Jávea, you’ll require a Minor Works Permit before you install your system.
With this permit, you ensure your installation adheres to all safety standards and local regulations.
It’s vital for the process of legalising your system and confirming full compliance.
For this, the following documents will be required:
- Your ID
- Proof that you paid the ICIO
- Proof that you paid the Urban Planning Fees
- A description of the works and a technical report listing the specifics of the installation
A technician will sign off your installation on a so-called ‘Boletin’.
This is a registration that confirms your system is installed in accordance with the Low Voltage Electrotechnical Regulation (REBT).
But more than that, the ‘Boletin’ also means the following:
- You’ll be able to benefit from incentives and bonuses
- Your system will be certified as safe
- Any alterations you want to make to your system can be done easily
If you want to qualify for the EU grants discussed below, you’ll need to present a home energy efficiency certificate from before and after the solar installation.
This way, you can illustrate the progress you made and prove you meet the energy requirements.

Tax Breaks and Grants in Jávea
The ICIO Tax Break
In Spain, you have to pay the construction, installation and works tax (ICIO) on installations and renovations where a municipal license is required.
In Jávea, this translates as a payment of 4% of the total value of the works.
So, if your installation costs €10,000, you’ll pay €400 in ICIO.
Fortunately, Jávea offers an ICIO tax reduction of 95% to encourage the installation of solar panels.
That means that a tax bill of €400, for example, would be reduced to €20.
Property Tax Reduction (IBI)IBI is an annual property tax paid by owners of both urban and rural properties.
In Jávea, properties with solar installations are entitled to a 25% discount on the full tax rate for three tax periods following the completion of the installation.
To qualify for the tax break, the following must be kept in mind:
- The maximum amount of the tax break will be no more than €200 per property per year.
- This break will not be granted if any other property tax reductions are already applied.
- Only legally installed installations will be eligible for this reduction; to prove compliance with the requirements for this rebate, the ‘Boletin’ must be provided.
- The installation must demonstrate a minimum installed power of 2 kW.
- This discount will not be granted if the installation is mandatory according to any specific regulations.
The Generalitat Valenciana (Valencian government) currently has a grant available through the EU’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, known as the ‘ayudas a las actuaciones de mejora de la eficiencia energética en viviendas, en el marco del Plan de Recuperación, Transformación y Resiliencia.’
This grant, a Next Generation EU Grant, roughly translates as the grant for ‘energy efficiency improvement in homes, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan’ and covers 40% of the cost of a solar panel installation, up to a limit of €3,000.
This grant is available until 27 February 2026.
RequirementsIn order to qualify for this grant, you should make sure you meet the following requirements:
- The cost of your installation should be equal to or greater than €1,000 per property.
- You’ll need to be a permanent resident at the property at the time of application.
- You’ll also need to demonstrate a reduction in your heating and cooling energy usage of at least 7%.
- You’ll also need to demonstrate a minimum reduction in the usage of non-renewable energy by 30%.
It is important to note that if you have already received money through the EU Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, you won’t be eligible for this grant.
How to apply- This grant can be applied for online.
- You’ll need to be in possession of your registration certificate and housing contract or deed, as well as any contract you’ve made with the company carrying out the works.
We’re happy to help you apply for any grants, just bear in mind that it can take between one and three years to actually get the grant, should your application be successful.
The IRPF Tax Deduction with Generalitat ValencianaA Personal Income Tax (IRPF) is levied directly on the income of tax-paying residents in Spain.
However, if you have a solar installation, you could benefit from a tax rebate of 40%.
How to applyThe IRPF tax deduction can be obtained when you do your annual tax return (declaración de la renta).
When doing your tax return, there’s a field you can mark and fill out with the amount you paid for your solar installation and use this to justify a deduction in your personal income tax payment (impuesto de la renta de las personas físicas).
It’s worth mentioning that to get the tax rebate, you need to be a tax resident in Spain and you need to have tax to pay.
It’s also worth noting there that you won’t be able to claim a tax deduction for the whole installation if you’ve applied for a grant.
In other words, if you applied for a grant, you’d get 40% off the total cost of the installation minus any grants you received.
We recommend asking your gestor or accountant for more information to understand how much you can save. While we recommend applying for the deduction, the amount and successful application is not in our control.
